Tour 4: Perth Busport Tour
Perth Busport is located underground between Wellington Street, Roe Street, Yagan Square and King Street. There are three passenger entrances (King Street, Queen Street and Yagan Square) and two entrances for buses, the Milligan Street Entrance (MEN or Tunnel 7) and the Wellington Street Entrance (WEN or Tunnel 8).
Perth Busport is the main terminus point for high frequency bus services serving the northern and western suburbs, with many of these buses operating via the Northern Busway to Fitzgerald Street and Charles Street. In addition, a high frequency through route and other services provides connections to the southern and eastern suburbs.
Perth Busport has 16 stands across 2 zones and 25 layover stands, handling around 170 buses departing or arriving in the busiest hour during peak periods. The Busport dynamic stand management system operates in a similar way to an airport. Buses set down at any one of 16 stands, but they only pick up at one of eight stands. Passengers wait for the bus in an air-conditioned lounge and are directed to their boarding stand at least 2 minutes before the bus departs.
The Dynamic Stand Management System automatically controls bus movements within the Busport, with buses allocated to set down, layover or departure stands based on the trip details entered into the ticket machine and driver requests. Operating this way means that the number of buses per hour that can use each stand is increased when compared to a traditional operation where bus routes set down at a designated area and pick up at a fixed stand.
